I don't know how the product is because it would not download. I had 2 IT people try to download this product on my business computer and I on my home computer and it would not print. I called the company it was shipped from and the gentleman was rude, arrogant and said he had no problems with the product and would not give me a full refund if I returned it for another one. I have had HP lasterjet (1020) prior to this one and had no problem. The problem is the seller probably not the product.

I have three computers in the house and this printer refused to work on any of them. I tried it on my MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard and it refused to work out of the box. The HP drivers are non existent, but there are some hacks to get it to work. Not ideal for most people. Next, I tried to hook it up on my wife's MacBook and despite having the proper drivers, apparently, it didn't work either. Last, I hooked it up to the Windows 7 machine I have in the house and same thing... it refused to work. After messing around for an hour I dumped it back in the box and shipped it back to Amazon. I ended up getting an OfficeJet 6000 wireless/Ethernet printer and it worked perfectly out of the box with all three machines over my network. Bottom line, this printer looked to good to be true... it was. 1 Star.
 Not a good network printer March 7, 2010

We replaced an aging Laserjet 1022 with this printer and keep running into problems. First of all, we run Macs with OS 10.5, two of which use this printer daily (shared). Our first problem was that this printer is incompatible with our DYMO Labelwriter 400. Had to move the label printer to another computer that doesn't use the 1006P. It also has trouble printing PDF files straight from a browser, but not from Adobe Reader. And one more, we occasionally print to our printers from Windows running under VMware Fusion, but the 1006P refuses to allow this.
For someone printing from one computer at home or school, this printer would be great. It's not so great on a network in a business.

Perfect. I was looking for a black & white laser printer and finally found the perfect one. It is faster than my color printer and cartridge repacements are cheaper.

The HP LJ P1006 is an excellent entry level simplex laser printer. It is very compact. The input bin holds enough paper for average use. The quality matches any high end HP LJ. It was excellent value from the retail store I planned to buy it from. It became superior value (33% savings)with the savings I realized by buying through Amazon. The installation process is very easy. I did not need the backing of a retail store because HP has a very accessible online help desk ... perhaps the best in the industry. HP offers direct inexpensive extended service, if needed. But for this productive little printer, extended service was not necessary. Again, excellent value. The printer will last years and years.
